Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? PAUSE is a seasonal lifestyle magazine aimed at 16-25 year olds, published by Condé Nast. The two issues – Winter '25 and Summer '26 – are built around the premise that British everyday life is worth documenting. The website exists as an extension of that premise. In terms of media language, across both issues there is a tight visual system, with an off-white base, serif masthead, and a single accent colour in orange. The orange 'S' within ‘PAUSE’ functions as a recurring brand motif, as it is small enough to be a detail, but distinctive enough to be a logo. Across the contents pages, large-scale numerals in the same orange create visual rhythm and reinforce brand consistency.
